The Survivor Archives Project Needs Your Help!

New Archives Banner

Whats 'The Survivor Archives' Project?

The Survivor Archives could be described as an online magazine where an abuse/trauma survivor is featured on a quarterly basis. It's a collaborative project based on survivors sharing what has helped them through out their healing. The goal is for this sharing to help other survivors by showing them, through example, that their healing is possible while providing them with ideas on how to get there and how NOT to get there. It helps survivors both to remember that they're not alone to give them them continual hope.

The Survivor Archives project is about reaching inside ourselves - into our past, present, and future and bringing all of it onto page so that it can be learned from. It's all about sharing, and learning.

To find out more please visit The Survivor Archives homepage at www.survivorarchivesproject.com. Or just click HERE.

What's So Important About This Project?

There are a lot of people who do benefit greatly from this project. I know because I've read their emails giving thanks for the shared strength and hope they receive through the words of each featured survivor. My hope is that eventually each reader will come to a place where they are healed to a point of being able to complete their own archive. It's a cycle of healing, it really is.

What's a Survivor Archive?

In each Archive the featured survivor is encouraged though a format developed by myself, to tell their story in such a way that the focus is not on the abuse itself - but the healing and recovery process. This concept is important because, not only does it help the survivor who is featured reflect upon the hope, the strength and power contained in his or her own story; it also inspires other survivors and helps them to find their courage to heal and tell their own stories, in a healthy and healing way, which is quite a difficult thing for most survivors to do.

How Can I Help With The Survivor Archives Project?

Submit a Request Form to Be Featured in an Archive

In order to continue with The Survivor Archives project, the website really needs a continual supply of Survivor Archive submissions. If you'd like to be considered for being featured please send an email to request@survivorarchivesproject.com

Submit an Essay, Article, or Poetry to The Survivor Journal

Writing from survivors pertaining to survivor issues is needed to provide readers with increasing information pertaining to their journeys. This writing goes into a second section of 'The Survivor Archives' homepage - The Survivor Journal - which is a collection of articles, essays, and poetry based around Survivor Issues. If you'd like to submit to The Survivor Journal please send an email to journal@survivorarchivesproject.com. Include your email address so that I can send you pre-made bulletins to post in blogs, emails, and message boards.

Submit a Book to the Survivor Library

There are so many books on Trauma related issues that it's impossible to list them all. But I would like to list as many as possible. If there are any books you'd like to see added to our library please send an email to library@survivorarchivesproject.com

Spread the Word

Since the biggest challenge for me lays in finding enough survivors who are able to complete an Archive, the greatest help anyone can offer is in simply spreading the word about this project. This is why I send pre-made bulletins (much like this one) to volunteers for them to post in blogs, emails, and message boards. If you would like to help in this way please email me at volunteer@survivorarchivesproject.com

Does The Survivor Archives project Need Donations?

Annually the project costs about $150 annually to keep the website up and running. That said, donations are always appreciated. Please donate via paypal with the button provided on our website sidebar. Just go to www.survivorarchivesproject.com and click on the "Donate" button.

Launch of Essential Children’s Book

Launch of Essential Children’s Book
“My Body Belongs to Me”
Turns an Awkward Subject Into a Natural Discussion

Groundbreaking Title Teaches Very Young Children
Their Bodies Are Their Own

NEW YORK, NY--(September 1, 2009) - Safety Star Media announced today the nationwide release of My Body Belongs to Me, a story about a child who is inappropriately touched by an uncle’s friend. Using her decade of experience as a New York City prosecutor of child abuse and sex crimes, Author Jill Starishevsky triumphantly fills a void to help parents and teachers educate children about a sensitive subject in a perfectly natural way. With a rhyming verse and beautiful illustrations by Sara Muller, My Body Belongs to Me offers a compelling and
uplifting message without shame.

A mother of two young children, Ms. Starishevsky crafted a book that speaks to children from ages three to eight, making them aware there are boundaries when it comes to their own bodies. My Body Belongs to Me encourages them to tell a parent or teacher if someone touches their “private parts.” Starishevsky was inspired to write the book after working on a case involving a young victim who endured years of abuse and then bravely sought help after watching an episode of Oprah about sexual abuse.

The clear message of My Body Belongs to Me is that if someone inappropriately touches you, tell. Studies show that 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be molested. Without educating children as to the importance of disclosing, the abuse can continue and escalate. “Just as we carefully teach youngsters what to do in case of fire, we must teach them what to do if someone touches them,” urged Starishevsky. “Through my work as a prosecutor, I realized there was a great need for a way for parents and teachers to facilitate this dialogue in a straightforward yet sensitive manner. Unfortunately, out of fear of embarrassing their children, parents often avoid this conversation until it is too late. By saying nothing to our children, we are sending them out there defenseless.”

Parents and educators need to start taking measures to protect children before something happens, and this book helps make that task so much easier. Pattie Fitzgerald, founder of Safely Ever After, a safety program for parents and kids, noted, “I have been teaching child safety classes for nearly ten years, and this is the first children’s book I’ve seen that really addresses the issues in a way that kids can understand and that doesn’t seem scary or heavy-handed.”

As licensed family and child therapist Kimberley Clayton Blaine noted, “Prevention is key when it comes to children’s personal safety. Kudos to Ms. Starishevsky for taking on this project.”

Jill Starishevsky has dedicated her career to seeking justice for victims of child abuse and sex crimes. Outside the courtroom, her fondness for writing led her to create www.thepoemlady.com, where she pens customized poems for special celebrations. She is also the founder of HowsMyNanny.com, a service that enables parents to purchase a license plate for their child’s stroller so the public can report positive or negative nanny observations. Starishevsky has appeared on Good Morning America, CNN International, Today in New York, Donny Deutsch’s The Big Idea and Fox News National among other news programs. By utilizing the same platform and by visiting schools, Ms. Starishevsky hopes to globally spread awareness about child sexual abuse prevention to ultimately stop the silence.

Song Spreading Awareness of Childhood Sexual Abuse

I heard this on the radio on the way home earlier this morning and felt the need to share this w/all survivors of childhood sexual abuse and fellow victims advocates. I can't believe this actually got any sort of radio play at all. Yay for awareness!

SONG LYRICS

Dirty little secret,
Dirty little lies.
Say your prayers and call me rare,
Save your soul tonight.

Drift among the faithful,
Bury your desires.
Aberrations fill your head,
You need a place to hide
And I am.

Do you remember me?
And the kid I used to be?
Do you remember me?

Chorus:
When your world comes crashing down
I want to relive.
(Your god is looking down on me!)

I’m not Jesus,
Jesus wasn’t there!

You confess it all away,
But it’s only shit to me
(Your god is looking down on me!)

I’m not Jesus,
I will not forgive!

No I won’t!
No I won’t.

I've thought you were a good man,
I've thought you talked to god.
You hippocratic mesianic child abusing turned satanic.

Do you remember me?
Do you remember me?
And the kid I used to be?
Do you remember?

Do you remember?

Chorus:
When your own world comes undone,
Let me be the one to say:
(Your god is looking down on me!)

"I’m not Jesus,
You can’t run away!"

And the innocence you spoil
Found a way to live.
(Your god is looking down on me!)

I’m not Jesus
I will not forgive!

I will not forgive.
I won’t do whatever you want to.
I will not forgive.
I won’t do whatever you want to.

Do you remember me?
And the kid I used to be?
Not the same as I used to be!
Oh, do you remember me?

Nooooooo!

Chorus:
When your world come crashing down,
I want to relive
(Your god is looking down on me!)

I’m not Jesus,
Jesus wasn’t fair!

You confess it all away,
But it’s only shit to me!
(Your god is looking down on me!)

I'm not Jesus,
I will not,
I’m not Jesus,
I will not forgive!

Oh, I will not forgive, yeah yeah!
No, I will not forgive!
